I work very closely with a number of translators and assist with the task of post-translation review.

PROOFREADING

With so much digital and printed media these days, it's important that your copy is error-free. Your message might be clear, but if there are errors and typos in the text, you can not only annoy your readers, but you can even lose their trust altogether.

My proofreading services begin with the brief where we discuss the requirements of the task, which include:

who the target audience is and what tone and style should be used,
which style guide should be followed,
corrections: lexical and grammatical, formatting and typographical,
basic copyediting,
specialisations: arts & humanities, education and media,
delivery format: MS Word, Adobe Reader and manual proofreading.

COPY-EDITING

This is the next level to proofreading. Maybe you have a word limit, or maybe there are more serious stylistic revisions that need to be made. The copyeditor aims to improve the overall quality of the text, and not just technical errors. This takes longer than simple proofreading and requires closer cooperation between the copyeditor and the author.
